Pimlico Puffins is a swimming club for those who have a learning or physical disability who would like to learn to swim or exercise in the water. All ages, size, shapes and characters come to our club to enjoy a swim.
We are affiliated to the Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy. We are part of a network of approximately 25 clubs in our area, Halliwick ASTRA (Regional Association) 1 which is part of Greater London, North of the Thames.
What we do
Well, firstly we have fun! While doing so we aim to provide a safe and pleasant environment in which people with disabilities can swim. The pool is closed to the public during Puffins sessions so you can enjoy the pool in private.
The social aspect of the Club is as important as the swimming. We pride ourselves on the friendly atmosphere of our Club and hope that you will make new friends.
Where we meet
We meet on Mondays at the Queen Mother Sports Centre, Vauxhall Bridge Road, Victoria SW1V 1EL, from 7.45pm and swim from 8.00 to 9.00pm. From 9.00 to 9.30pm, after getting changed, we gather for a Ribena and a biscuit for a well earned rest.
There will always be helpers who are trained and designated as lifeguards, one of whom will be present at each club evening. In addition there will be other poolside guards provided by the sports centre on the poolside for both pools used by the club. They ensure that normal water safety precautions are observed and that activities in the pool are safe. If at any time you are concerned about you or your swimmer’s safety you should seek help from the lifeguards or other helpers and swimmers around you.
Our helpers are required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check carried out to ensure they can work with children and vulnerable adults.
